Manawatu Naturist Club is baring even more in the hopes of attracting new members. The club unpadlocked the gates of its secluded Oroua Downs campground at the weekend for the first of four public open days, where prospective members can drop by and give nudity a try. Committee member Sara Dunn said four new members had shown up on the first of the open days, Saturday, and two returned yesterday.

Usually, the 17.5-acre park is a members' only zone, where campers can strip off and go about their day. The camp had recreational games, a swimming pool, a common room with kitchen, and a cabin and caravan for hire as well as powered campsites. Club member Marilyn Ellery, who joined about 30 years ago, said she started off feeling a bit unsure but soon found that being the only one dressed became uncomfortable. The camp will be open to the public again on November 9 and 10.
