Nude Kiwis celebrate Test

The annual nude rugby game is held by students to celebrate the start of the Test rugby season.

Dunedin's Carisbrook sports ground has been on the international rugby circuit for decades, but the first nude Test celebration was held in 2001, on one of the city's beaches.

While the beach tradition continued for a few years, this year's participants opted for the more traditional grass environment.

In keeping with the entertainment, each year has also featured a fully clothed 'streaker' who interrupts play before being taken away by a naked 'policeman'.

This year the game preceeded France playing All Blacks, for the first time since the Six Nations side upset New Zealand at the 2007 World Cup.

The Nude Blacks have again donned their "clothes" to play their traditional pre-test match in Dunedin.

Ball skills and a lot of tackle were the order of the day as New Zealand clashed with Fiji in a game of nude rugby.

The Nude Blacks and a Fiji invitational side went head to head at Logan Park today for the eighth annual nude rugby tournament.

The Kiwi side - which included one woman - stripped off while the more modest Fijians wore blue sarongs for the seven-a-side event, which had a blind referee guided by spectators.

The Nude Blacks emerged with their pride intact following a hair-raising encounter against a spirited invitational Australian outfit in Dunedin on 19 Oct 2013.

More than 2,000 supporters lined the North ground, with both teams earning equal gasps of approval and disdain when they took to the field.

The Australians, which included some on-loan New Zealand female rugby players, decided to soak up the Nude Blacks' mana, by advancing Australian fair on a spirited haka.
